The bedroom is no longer just a place to sleep and relax. It has become a room that is used for many purposes. TV’s have become permanent fixtures and many people are using their bedrooms as an office.

Careful planning is vital, you will need to think about ambient lighting first. This can be achieved by conventional recessed ceiling lighting. You may need a varying amount of light. In this case you could use a dimmer to vary the illumination. This device will enable you to get a bright light when you need it for working and a softer illumination for a more laid back atmosphere. You can make even less illumination if you need to watch TV.

The sides of the bedroom are utilized for different work and need various task lighting. A corner of the room or the bed is commonly used for reading. This makes table lamps a necessity. Installing them on both sides of the bed allows flexibility, as one partner may want to read and the other one can sleep. Angle lamps attached to the bed post can be slid up and down, this allows for better illumination.

You can utilize floor lamps for “arm chair” reading in a corner of the bedroom. In this way you will be able to read in comfort and still enjoy good illumination. To get the most out of your floor lights you should place them 10″ behind your shoulder and 47″ above the floor.

Your office space will often be a table against a wall of your bedroom. A desk lamp will be required as a task light for a computer or office area. Two good alternatives for getting a bright light are a regular office lamp or an angle poise light.

Accent lighting can also be used to make your bedroom more interesting. You can spotlight art work or unique ornaments in niches. LED light bars can be used for this purpose. LED lighting produces bright directional light which is ideal for highlighting an object. This will make your bedroom more interesting and unique.

Using different colors and styles of shades for table lamps can be very decorative. Create interest and enhance your decor with chic lamp shades. Make a unique feel to a room by using oriental style lamps. With pastel shades you can create a softer radiance and have a more laid back feel to the room.

When you accent your ceiling with track lighting you can make it look higher. It will provide a useful night light and create a soft relaxing radiance. Lights can be turned up or down to produce different illumination effects.
